The Seniors’ Section appoints a Captain annually – for 2017 Roy Morgan has been elected, who will be followed in 2018 by Ian McLeod. There is also a Seniors’ Fixtures’ Secretary who looks after the regular friendly inter-club matches each season. The 2018 Fixtures’ Secretary is Cyril Teasdale.
The Section play twice each week throughout the year, Tuesdays and Fridays, with a combination of roll-up and organized competitions, including monthly medal competitions for handicap purposes.
Competitions include the Trevor Clarke competition, that runs through the summer and a Winter League through October/March. All handicaps are eligible, as long as they are currently valid.
There are also annual Seniors’ open days, where members of Cradoc and other Clubs alike may enter. There are both singles and pairs’ Open Days each year, with entry available via the Club website here
Friendly inter-club matches are very popular, and take place throughout the main season; clubs played at typically include Builth, Llandrindod, Monmouthshire, Kington, Herefordshire, Burghill, Brecon, Aberdare, Morlais Castle, Raglan, Machynys, the Rolls of Monmouth and Pontypool. Selection for team matches is open to all members of the Seniors’ section, by way of appending names on team sheets in advance. These are on view in the Seniors’ notice board in the gents’ locker room. Similarly, there is a match against the Ladies’ Section of the Club each August.
The Seniors’ section arrange an annual Captain’s away day which provides a great opportunity to have a really enjoyable day’s golf (followed by a meal and a glass or two of wine) at another Club within a reasonable travelling distance. The 2017 Seniors’ Captain’s Away Day is at Pontardawe Golf Club on 4th July 2017.
New members will be welcomed with a smile and an introduction to existing members of the section at any time – just turn up and be ready to play on a Tuesday or Friday morning (from 8.15 am summer, or 8.45 am winter).
